Helllllooooo Friends!

I figure while launching SOCIAL here in St. Simons in the next few months, like a teenager begrudgingly waking up at 2 p.m., slowly but surely, I can start blogging again and fill my posts with the services and event locations I've come across in the year and a half I've been here.

The first location, and one that is closest to my heart, because my hubby works here, is the Cloister at Sea Island. These photos, by Tim Zielenbach (stunning photographer if you're ever looking for one) show the best of the 5-star resort. I met Tim a few times when we worked in Charleston, SC. He has to be one of the nicest people and his photography is no less than amazing!

When we first moved here I worked as a freelance event designer with Sea Island, and having been around the block a few times with venues and vendors, I can tell you everything from the flowers to the food is top notch (read $$$), and worth it.

Forget about that whole West Virginia thing! This year has been a crazy ride... through the mountains of WV back down south to the shores of St. Simons Island, GA. I'm so glad to be back in the "Lowcountry", of sorts, and with just a 3 hour drive to Charleston, I'm sure I'll be back and forth quite often to check out the new restaurants, and check in with old friends!

I'm doing some freelance event work back in Charleston, and here at the Cloister on Sea Island, while I'm also watching my little baby J turn into a big boy, and we are having so much fun. My next big personal projects are planning a best friend's bachelorette party and helping her plan her March destination nuptials in Costa Rica, so life's pretty sweet right about now! Check in again soon.

Real Wedding: Megan and Alex

We had the pleasure of coordinating the wedding of a beautiful couple who reside in California, but who came back to the Lowcountry for a stylish Southern affair. Megan and Alex had a beautiful and intimate wedding of only about 40 guests. The ceremony took place at Megan's Aunt's house on Stono Plantation in Hollywood, SC and then guests were transported to McCrady's in downtown Charleston for an intimate, candle-lit dinner with heartfelt toasts from family and friends. Photos were shot by Caleb of A Bryan Photo.

Alina and Nathan's photos are up on CVI Photography's blog! This intimate 22-person affair took place at the hauntingly beautiful Confederate Home on Broad Street. SOCIAL had the best time designing this event from the large dining table and oversized patterned runner which was a modern twist on the shape and designs of the vintage plates Alina rented for her 3-course seated dinner. SOCIAL Event Design & Planning was the design sponsor for the Aisle Style Opening Reception for the Charleston Museum's new exhibition. The party was really great and I have some amazing photos taken by my friend and owner of 120 Design, Christina Bailey!

Ashley Bakery did the cake, which was even more stunning in person and they also provided a variety of other desserts in the monochromatic color scheme of peach and gray (gray sugar crystals on the sugar cookies, cool!)

Other sponsors of the event included PDA Stage for lighting, Tiger Lily Florist for...flowers, Charleston Weddings Magazine, and relatively new and fabulous caterer, Newton Farms Catering.

At the last moment I was racking my brain for a simple garnish for the specialty cocktail, a peach bellini and I bought these sugared peach rings which fit perfectly on the rim of the glass!

Check out the exhibit at the Charleston Museum if you get a chance, the vintage dresses and trousseau items are so interesting!

I highly doubt that brides of the 19th century were as concerned with color palettes and ice sculptures as the modern brides of today. Nevertheless, I’m sure that brides of the past were still very much concerned with style. The Charleston Museum has a special exhibit that highlights all things wedding from the past 150 years; starting with the bride's dress to groom's garments and even accessories. Not to mention all of your burning questions about wedding traditions will be exposed. Why was white so significant in choosing the gown or does blue really ensure great things for your wedding day?

One of my best friends, Shanelle, called me yesterday to tell me she just got engaged to her bf of about 5 years Andrew! Of course I have offered to plan her wedding, and I can't wait for our first planning session. The last conversation we had was about how she wanted a destination wedding (Hawaii, Mexico!!!), but that was promptly followed by "We'll see, I'm sure it's a long ways away."... that was a month ago. Needless to say I'm stoked to help plan a beautiful wedding for one of my besties, it definitely helps when you know someone inside and out, and I will keep you in the loop along the way.

Wooden invitation suites by Oslo Press. Shanelle is from Guam and loves island culture, these invitations would be a great way to tie in the islands, especially if her wedding is in Hawaii.

She has somewhat expensive taste...what better shoe for Shanelle than Chanel? Pink and ruffled for that matter.

Real Wedding: Cute Couple Sarah & Steven

We did some fun work for a wedding out at the Citadel Beach House in the end of June (HOTTEST DAY EVER) for Sarah & Steven Truschka. The young couple wanted a colorful, playful wedding with design elements to match.

So we brought in the bridesmaid dress colors of bright pink, purple and green and incorporated them into the linens, flowers, favors, everything! We did lemon and lime place cards because the refreshments at the cocktail hour were huge glass jars of lemonade, limeade, punch and peach tea. The favors were mason jars with pink and yellow lemonade mix for guests to take home.

Real Wedding: Meredith & Eric

Meredith and Eric, from Columbia, got married at St. John's Lutheran Church and had their reception at the Historic Rice Mill on a beautiful Sunday in May.

Their style is eclectic and artsy, their wedding elements definitely echoed their unique tastes!

Meredith is a graphic designer and not only did she design her invitation suites, but all her printed material had her own personal touch. Like this menu card, below.

The long dining tables were draped in ivory linen with different patterned runners on each table brining in the couple's colors of tomato red and a touch of turquoise in the huge mason jar vases and fun birdie votive holders.

It's rare that you immediately heart a vendor you've just met at a wedding, but when Ashley Brokop and I got to talking this weekend, we dished about how our bride's style was what we both loved (photos to come, I promise)! Ashley is a former military combat photographer who has a knack for capturing every fleeting moment and apparently flattering lighting, too.

She's out of Columbia and available everywhere, these are a few of my favorite shots from her blog.

The wedding we worked together this weekend was at the Rice Mill and I'll post photos as soon as I get them!

On a side note, some of you who have been following and are wondering about my "Cotton Dock Bride" and all the posts leading up to the wedding which was scheduled for mid-May...unfortunately it won't be happening, and though I would have loved to create her perfect day, our thoughts go out, and I wish her the best in finding her happiness!

I've been so MIA. April had us working a lot and also catching up with family and friends to show off our new little baby toy. Back to the grind stone!!! Most people say wearing a white wedding gown signifies purity, some say wealth, but what does your shoe color say about you? White gowns have a long history, but who said the slippers have to be white, too!

Lemon yellow can bring out your cheerful personality and whoever gets a glimpse of your pumps will know you love being happy!

Pink is the sweet side of red. Pink peep toe platforms will provoke passion with a pinch of playfulness (all about some awesome alliteration).

Red delicious shoes might tell people you LOVE love, something serious. You're and angel and a devil with canned heat in your heels all night.

Blue hues are calming and friendly. They may evoke feelings of stability. You'll have your lucky "something blue", and a reason to smile, as if getting married isn't reason enough.

We received the hand made invitation suite for our client Jenny's wedding, awesome! She's so talented.

The recurring theme in the stationery has been the use of her and her fiance's silhouettes and the oversized ampersand which creates so much character and consistency.

She also kept things simple with the use of craft paper for her invitation envelope, invitation sleeve and response card envelope. This should go great with the Cotton Dock as their reception venue, and burlap used in the linens.

Time for Tea

Springtime not only means warm weather and cute bathing suits, but shorter hemlines for wedding dresses. Women everywhere are baring their legs and raising their skirts to show off their new spring tans! Now let’s not get crazy ladies, calf length or maybe knee length look absolutely stunning- anything above that might be considered improper for such an occasion. Pair these shorter dresses with bright colored pumps or sandals to add the unexpected "Wow!"

Orange is the New Pink

Or is it? This season it’s not so much about which colors are “in” or “out” but which shades are being seen. Say goodbye to pastels and hello to jewel tones- bright, rich colors are taking over! Vibrant hues are popping up all over in weddings this season, from floral arrangements to bridesmaid dresses and invitations.

Garden Charm

Intimate backyard weddings and rustic outside dinners have been huge hits for as long as grandma will hide the antiques- partially because they cost less than renting a huge venue. Done the right way a garden wedding or even just reception gives off that warm, laid-back feeling that makes everyone feel like family. Make sure to check with neighbors about any sound issues that may arise as well as all of your vendors to make ensure they have the proper space and equipment to make your big day a success!

While late night snacks have always been a popular idea, having fun treats at the end of the night are becoming more and more popular. Milk and cookies are a hit, as well as the traditional candy bar where guests take home a bag full of goodies compliments of the bride and groom. Other great ideas include lollipops in event colors, freshly popped popcorn in vintage containers, or something meaningful to the couple- dessert sushi anyone??

Moral of the story: Wear a tea length dress and carry your bright bouquet to your backyard wedding with some sweet late night bites!

Seaside Sweetness

We got the pro photos for Laura & Eric's wedding from Juliet Elizabeth Photography and we are blown away with her talent! The laid-back destination affair took place at the Sandcastle at Kiawah Island on a BEAUTIFUL day in the beginning of March.

The couple was married before 60 of their closest friends and family wrapped around them in orchestra-style seating. They took their vows under a stunning custom arbor built by A New Leaf Studio. The florals were a romantic mixture of peonies, ranunculus roses, orchids and eucalyptus.

The palette was a mixture of soft peaches/pinks/yellows/ivory with a subtle contrasting smoky blue color in the bouquet and boutonniere ribbons, as well as the 18 foot semi-sheer drape that separated the cocktail hour from the dining area.

Sea shells in charming shapes and textures were discreetly used through out the theme, even on the cake (by Kasarda). The seated dinner was elegantly served by Hamby Catering and the bar was stocked with the finest wines since the couple met while in the wine business in California. Finally, another fun element they added was a joggling board to bring in the charm of Charleston!

Beautiful wedding, congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Mohseni!

Cool corporate event! This special to-do was a party honoring employees of TD Bank (apparently a Canadian bank who can afford this!). Flowers in tall vases were suspended from the ceiling creating a dramatic design.

The tables were also oddly yet interestingly arranged. The centerpieces were hundreds of various sized cylinder vases containing all types of green flowers, moss, rocks and candles for a scattered, not too stuffy, effect. No bailout money wasted on this one!

Turn over A New Leaf: Preview

Our first wedding of the season was at the Sandcastle at Kiawah Island this weekend, and the weather was gorgeous! Laura & Eric were married in front of about 60 people in an intimate affair. We worked with Annie from A New Leaf Studio again, and she always does BEAUTIFUL flowers, unfortunately these photos don't do them justice. This time she also created a custom arbor for the ceremony overlooking the ocean.

We'll get professional shots from firecracker/photographer Juliet Elizabeth very soon, can't wait to share them!

So it's the end of the year, and how will I sum up all the wonderful events that came and went? In a beautiful custom-made book from MyPublisher that is more like a coffee table book than a photo album. I have yet to receive this in the mail, but it looks pretty good online, and I can't wait to bring it to client meetings instead of stacks of photos. I'll keep you posted on the quality, I might even do one for my wedding and honeymoon.

Well, it's not cold outside in Charleston today, but in NYC, while there was a chill in the air, supporters celebrated at the New York Botanical Garden's Winter Wonderland Ball under a tent that didn't look like one at all. Love the flat ceiling and projections, making the peaked tent seem like a cozy room, and the draped white walls and black borders gave a luxurious designer flare (a la Candice Olson).

One of our awesome Spring brides just sent us her Save the Date that she created and printed herself, and it's beautiful. Jenny is a graphic designer in New York, who is originally from Charleston, and she's right on target with her original ideas in the last collage photo.

Their Save the Date was designed by Jenny and printed on her home computer on craft paper. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

For those of you who have wondered if I fell off the face of the Earth as of late, you are right! I have been in half nesting mode, and it's getting worse. My husband and I are expecting in February and couldn't be more excited! I will likely post here and there, but definitely not at the frequency as I have in the past, until after Baby Bradley arrives.

I can't wait to share some of Social's events with you through pictures and a bit of commentary, but don't get too excited. When we come back full force, it will be with a bang... I'll keep you posted (pun intended).

Real Wedding: Rebecca & Jason

This weekend Social designed and coordinated an intimate wedding at the Legare-Waring House. This beautiful house in Charles Towne Landing was the location for Rebecca and Jason's beautifully simple and elegant nuptials. The couple got married under the avenue of oaks, then entertained their guests with a cocktail hour near the lake, and then danced the night away in front of the historic home underneath the tent with hanging twinkling candles.

Rebecca and Jason wanted a more contemporary feel, so we ordered square tables, a large black and white dance floor, and a small grouping of chocolate brown ottomans which we wrapped in thick stitched grosgrain ribbon to match the wedding colors of a light robin's egg blue and brown. The tables were simple, but the addition of inexpensive contrasting runners gave them a bit more interest at a fraction of the cost.

Social hung lanterns above the fountain as a focal point, and the beautiful cake stood out as a work of art. Not to mention it was ridiculously delicious!

Real Wedding: Kristin & Russell

I'm SO excited that I can finally start posting about our real weddings since I've gotten some exciting stuff in. I received our finished invitation suites from talented designer, Kelli Marie Hall, of Carte Blanche Invitation Design, and they are exquisite!

Kristin and Russell's colors are black, white and pink-- all shades from blush to fuschia, and the black envelopes were calligraphed in hot pink, how cute!

The bold, yet chic graphics and patterns of pink peonies and black damask really play off each other well and tie in with another fun theme element - a romantic French evening, as the reply postcard quips "répondez si'l vous plaît". Cute 2.0!

The back (or front) of the reply postcard is the beautiful peony graphic and custom design. I can't even stand it, thanks Kelli!

More to come, this wedding is in just a few weeks!

I was ribbon shopping today in some craft stores and couldn't get out of the Martha Stewart Crafts aisle! She sure does make it easy, and chic, to get all crafty for a wedding, doesn't she? Here are some of my favorites:

Customizable beverage labels make those unsightly wine labels disappear (and no one will ever know it's cheap - I mean inexpensive, wine!).

Water Lily place cards look like you spent hours on them, when it was really Martha.

I got this ribbon storage box for me, but also might use it for a wedding we're doing in October where we'll wrap it in damask fabric and hold the ribbon for securing candy bags that guests can cut themselves!

What a little lighting can do. It never fails, so many people overlook building a great lighting scheme into their decor budget, they figure string (twinkle, christmas, whatevs) will do the trick, but with that you only get the same ol' thing! I highly encourage looking into professional lighting! See?! What a transformation from day to night.

I do feel funny saying Furry Affair, but that's what happened at Memminger Auditorium (obvs the new event hot spot!) this past Saturday evening. The "affair" was a combination silent and live auction benefiting the Charleston Animal Society. Tristan restaurant provided the food again this year, and as always it was delicious. Group Dynamics also sponsored rentals and linens this year-- if you haven't been to their new place on the JI, you should see what they've got.

Party time

PDA and Stolzle teamed up last Thursday for an awesome showcase at Memminger Auditorium, and it was not to be missed. PDA designed a number of vignettes which allowed guests to visualize all different types of events and what could be done in the production department-- an event/wedding tent, a concert stage (with Guitar Hero!), a gala vignette, etc.

Stolzle, a high performance glassware company, showcased their chic collections at the event as the bar served drinks in their glassware so everyone got a chance to try them out.

The plentiful and artistic food displays were designed by the Culinary Institute of Charleston, you should have seen this cheese display, it was literally insane!!!

Stay aloft

Yay! Social has been tapped to help the new aloft Charleston Airport Hotel plan their Big Bash media party in September. aloft is a W-concept hotel from Starwood, and it's friggin' cool!

The Charleston property is already open, on Tanger Outlet Blvd, so if you're in the area and need a neat place to stay (at a GREAT opening rate, btw), or an after work cocktail at the Wxyz bar, you should def stop by and check it out.

The Big Bash will just showcase the coolness of the hotel, with a Diva DJ (not a cartoon), and modern elements like hot pink orchids, heavily branded items like gobos all over the place and an ice sculpture that will hold their specialty cocktails.

Can't wait to show you how it turns out!

High Class Escorts

Our wedding last week was one of our first attempts at creating an eye-catching escort card display, and it was fun to play around with colors, textures and other visual elements. I mean, it's just going to be seen for about 5 minutes, so how do you make it memorable? Check these cute, and quite memorable, escort card displays!

Can you imagine trying to get photos of all your guests to hang with their escort cards? That's exactly what this couple did, and even hung photos of those who attended "in spirit".

Cute cappuccino cups and wheat grass gave this display a whimsical look.

These hand-blown Mexican shot glasses doubled as place card holders and unique favors... and I'm sure they got the party started right!

Flower Power

We had a wedding on Friday at the Pavilion at Patriot's Point, and it was Social's first REAL floral attempt. Flowers are hard work, but it payed off because they were beautiful and the bride loved them! Centerpieces consisted of large white calla lilies, dendro orchids in green, white, and blush, and wine colored dahlia(s?). Oh and some Japanese willow branches. The wedding colors were pink, wine red/burgundy and white.

Below, I must show off the simple and contemporary stationery created by talented graphic designer, Kelli Hall. I put the place cards in galvanized trays, with a layer of pink pebbles across the bottom, and a beautiful huge spider mum in the corner. Simple and stunning.

Okay, for me it's more like "Christian Bale-as-Bruce Wayne-Mania", but we all have reasons why we made The Dark Knight the highest grossing movie premier of ALL time!

Wendy Creed Productions planned the premiere's after party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel with killer views of the real Gotham City, just like Brucie's (that's what I call him :) new penthouse apartment in the movie.

Taking clever cues from the film, the Joker's sinister graffiti showed up everywhere from reserved table signs, to the floor to ceiling windows of the event space. Joker's calling cards were also strewn all over the tables and furniture for added effect. After all, why so serious?

A little bit of Wheel of Fortune there for the blog title! I love the look of the vintage bird cage for storing gift envelopes at a wedding. Anywho, during my day trip to New York I stopped by Jamali Garden Supplies, or jamaligarden.com, which has so many great event supplies. It was a tiny, skinny shop on West 28th in the flower district. Check out the website, great stuff at reasonable prices... shipping's a pain, though!

Jersey Girl

Wow, I didn't plan on not checking my email or updating my blog AT ALL for the past week, but when the vacation bug bites, it's hard! We went up to New Jersey for Greg's cousin's wedding and made little side trips to DC and Manhattan. Anyway, some highlights from the wedding!

Asheley and Dave got married at St. Peters Church in Point Pleasant, New Jersey and were received at the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club on the shore, a really beautiful venue overlooking the beach. Guests were welcomed to a cocktail hour outside with a couple of open bars, a specialty mojito cocktail, and passed hors d'oeuvres like mini Kobe beef sliders and coconut fried shrimp.

Their first dance was a live version of Jersey Girl by Bruce Springsteen (this made me wonder how popular this might be as the first dance song in NJ, it's beautiful!). The father of the bride's toast was tearful as he spoke about how his late wife, and Asheley's mother, couldn't be with them to celebrate-- and in leiu of favors a donation was made to the ALS Association in her honor.

Dinner was served, a buffet of seafood, chicken marsala, roasted vegetables, carving stations of filet mignon, ham, and turkey (suitable for stuffing myself silly...). The cake was actually a beautiful tieredtower with huge chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries served to each table. The night was topped off with A LOT of dancing by the crowd. Congratulations Asheley and Dave Jordan!

Going to NYC

What is a flogo, you ask? Sounds like a floating logo... Flogos.net is a Huntsville, Alabama-based company that developed a way to put your logo in the clouds. Flogos are an environmentally friendly, sort of soapy matter, with a little helium mixed in for lift. Fun!

After a couple weeks of re-organizing (my liiife!), and doing some spring...er, summer, cleaning, I'm back to blogging! This post is about an awesome website I found called BurkeDecor.com.

Not only is it chock full of reasonably priced home decor goodies, I've found some great event goods as well. Up top, a set of 5 hand blown glass vases for only $50... scatter these with votives on a long dinner table, or give each guest their own bud vase at each table setting. Just above, a neat looking pendant lamp (a bit like sheets of toilet paper, but whatevs), after seeing so many drum shades, this stands out. And below, VERY unexpected but chic serving tray. I would use this to group candles and vases on in the middle of a table so the graphic isn't overwhelming, but still very interesting!

Social is having the chance to design a wedding for a July bride at the Pavilion at Patriot's Point. The couple hails from the Windy City (Chicago) and their color palette is pink, wine, cappuccino and ivory. Below is my inspiration board so far.

The bride said she likes a contemporary feel so I suggested dahlia and callas, as well as some other filler flowers for various groupings on their guest tables. Now I just need to find a clever escort card display that won't blow away on the Patriot's Point links right on the harbor.

WOW! I love this kind of stuff, who thinks of this?!?! Dinner in the Sky is just that; up to 22 people and 3 chefs can be hoisted up to 160 feet in the air and enjoy up to 8 hours of al fresco entertainment. Can you imagine cocktails in the sky? Woohoo!

This Belgian based company can do Dinner in the Sky just about anywhere there's enough room for a big huge crane. They will even rent a smaller platform for your musicians or other entertainment.

but it's my birthday today, and I've celebrated all weekend! This made me think of specialty cocktails and how fun they can be to tailor to your party, for any occassion. I made the Rosebud Martini for my little shindig at my friend X-tina's house on Saturday.

The Rosebud Martini- I got this recipe from a bartender friend of mine and it's yum! Real rose water (steep rose petals in hot water then mix with simple syrup), raspberry vodka, splash of lime juice, splash of bubbly, and a rose petal floating on top for garnish.

White Wedding Signature Cocktail- From theknot.com blog, this one's a little intensive, but maybe your bartender won't mind taking, like, 5 minutes to make your signature drink while the bar is 10-deep.

-- 5 fresh mint leaves
-- 1 1/2 oz. Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur
-- 1 1/2 oz. NAVAN Natural Vanilla Liqueur
-- 3 oz. heavy cream
-- 1 oz. agave nectar (at the corner store, promise)
-- Vanilla bean, for garnish
-- Oro Fino edible gold leaf, for garnish

1. Muddle the mint in a shaker until fully deconstructed and in tiny pieces. Add both liqueurs. Shake vigorously with ice and strain into a classic cocktail coupe glass.

2. In a second shake, combine heavy cream, agave nectar, and five ice cubes. Shake vigorously for at least 15 seconds until loosely whipped. Layer cream slowly on top of white chocolate base and garnish with a vanilla bean and Oro Fino edible gold leaf.

The 007- James Bond probably wouldn't go for this martini — a combination of Stoli Orange, orange juice and 7-Up. (O-O-7 — get it?)

Hot Spoleto

Highly anticipated US debut of Monkey; Journey to the West

Spoleto is kicking off next week, and if you're not familiar with this festival or Charleston, it means 2.5 weeks of constant buzz of artistic energy around town! Along with the Spoleto wave comes the City of Charleston's Piccolo Spoleto, featuring a lot of local genius-ity, and various other endeavors, like Philip Hyman's Evolution art show(s), and live music everywhere.

How Social of me: part deux

Okay, I was waiting for the disc with the images on it, but thought I'd just take one more quick look before we move on to some other exciting events. Gotta love it when your ideas come together (and don't end up looking like a circus tent)!

Social was an event sponsor--this is comparable to our name in lights!

Guests came to the Gibbes Museum of Art to view the exhibition, curated by newly appointed Executive Director Angela D. Mack, called "Landscape of Slavery: The Plantation in American Art". There were large scrims in orange (Identity), red (Politics), purple (Protest), and green (Nostalgia), that helped tell the story of the exhibition-- very powerful, please go see it!

I brought the colors down to the Courtyard for the party, which not only tied it into the exhibition, but also gave the party a splash of Spring!

Duvall Decor helped with some really beautiful pieces from their rattan furniture collection, sheer pole covers and the colorful draping. I rented the tables/linens/chairs from Snyder, the Gibbes Women's Council flower committee did the fab florals, and Carolina Catering did the food and bar.

The menu included southern delights like duck and collard spring rolls, shrimp on mini grit cakes with remoulade sauce, and key lime tart sandwiched between benne seed wafers.

The evening was finished off by the sweet tunes of the Charlton Singleton Trio and the nice early-May Charleston weather (not too hot, not too humid).

What a difference...

3 weeks makes. When I started planning the Gibbes Museum of Art's opening reception for the exhibition, Landscapes of Slavery: The Plantation in American Art, I had a dainty little idea about a pretty party. Then, seeing Angela Mack's ideas for designing her exhibition, I have almost done a 180°. See, I've realized that I love using color, lots of it, and that's exactly what Angela has done as well, so I decided to bring the colors of the exhibition down to the party.

The tents will be draped in the same colors as the scrims in the exhibition, deep jewel tones of red, purple, green, and orange. It's crossed my mind that this may end up looking a bit like a circus tent, but it's past the point of no return, now... In any case it will be full of color and light. With the Charlton Singleton Trio playing, it's sure to be a sweet southern evening.

Charleston’s third annual Cinco de Mayo Festival will take place on Friday May 2, 2008 at the Visitor's Center Bus Terminal (375 Meeting Street) in downtown Charleston from 7p.m. to 11p.m.

Guests are invited to sample local Mexican foods while relaxing with Margaritas and Mexican beer and enjoying live entertainment. Tickets for the festival are $10 at the door. Food and alcohol will be sold separately at a cash bar. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Trident Literacy Association.

May 5th marks the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. In the United States, this day has become a celebration known as “Cinco de Mayo.” It has become a time to commemorate Mexican heritage and culture.

I am a fan of the music festival, that's for sure, and the Coachella Music Festival last weekend in Indio, California looked cooler than any music fest I've seen in a while. Art, music, PRINCE! Wish I coulda been there! Read more HERE.

I often wonder how a company plans a multi-day festival; lining up musicians, VIP's, sponsors, staging, lighting, bathrooms, food, drink, security, ticketing, parking.... geesh, I'm giving up just thinking about it. I bet the year goes by really fast for those planners.

Two employees from Stage Presence Equipment Rentals, a division of OtherBrother Entertainment, were electrocuted on Wednesday while putting up a tent in McClellanville. Others were also injured.
