Flogo my logo

What is a flogo, you ask? Sounds like a floating logo... Flogos.net is a Huntsville, Alabama-based company that developed a way to put your logo in the clouds. Flogos are an environmentally friendly, sort of soapy matter, with a little helium mixed in for lift. Fun!

re:cycled

I've been looking into recycled glass for a wedding I'm designing, and while these are way out of our price range, they are really cool. Transglass Recycled Glass from re:modern are handcrafted by artisans.

Locally, we can find recycled glass from Fisher Recycling and use the pieces in serving, like James Burns of JBC Catering does, his presentation is greatly enhanced because of the recycled glass he uses.

It's easier than you think.

Wow! Meet Summer and Stephen from the ATL. They are rocking their wedding planning hardcore. All this talk about green and sustainable events, and these two have it down pat. They are having two wedding receptions so their families in Charleston and Chicago don't have to travel unnecissarily; their Charleston reception will be an eco-oyster roast with organic and local beer and wine and other organic elements.
Summer's wedding dress is a light blue raw silk dress that has not been bleached, and Stephen's wedding ring is one he's owned for years that will be "polished up, resized, and re-purposed as his wedding band." These two make it look really easy and really cool to have a sustainable wedding, their website is fascinating, check it. Congrats Summer and Stephen for realizing less is more!

Lean green party machine

It's Britt~

My friend Jesse just got back from her sister Britt's wedding in Nashville, and said it was BEAUTIMOUS! Britt and Jeffrey got married at the Traveller's Rest Plantation, and Jesse got them eco-friendly confetti to throw called Ecofetti.

This stuff is sweet not only because it's biodegradable , but mostly because you don't have to clean it up. It's water soluble and will dissolve on its own within 48 hours... or by the hose of the maintenance crew. So if you have a problem with those stickler venues, check out Ecofetti!

Kermit the Frog is not dead!

Green is quickly becoming the color of choice in many of today's industries, not because of the way it looks, but because of what it means. Going green in event planning means selecting supplies and services with a sensitivity toward reducing the threats we face from global warming, species extinction, deforestation, toxic waste and hazardous chemicals in our water and food. The Natural Resources Defense Council, a non-partisan environmental and advocacy organization, has a great website and tons of information about how to go green at home, work, play, etc.

The 2007 Academy Awards took the issue very seriously when they re-shaped many of the details of the event. Tissue products in the pre-show trailers, Kodak Theatre, dressing rooms and green rooms were 100% recycled content, non-endangered forest paper. Hybrid vehicles were made available for presenters and staff. Nearly 100% of Wolfgang Puck’s Governor’s Ball menu was organic and environmentally friendly, including seafood, dairy and produce selections. Puck used only organic, locally grown, sustainable ingredients and meat from humanely treated animals when serving the evening’s 1,600 pounds of lobster, 800 pounds of chicken, 400 pounds of Kobe beef, 40 pounds of black truffles, and 40 pounds of salmon. These were just a few of the steps taken by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the huge awards show that stops Hollywood in its tracks every year!

On our coast, another notably green event was the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. The night’s earth-friendly elements included email invites, the use of soy-based inks on biodegradable materials Bioflex and Duraplast for signage, generators powered with biodiesel, and organic food for catering.
